Designer presents IAMISIGO collection
Nigerian designer Bubu Ogisi showcased her brand IAMISIGO during the final day of the Lagos Fashion Week. The presentation blended performance, installation, and spirituality, exploring the intersection of fashion and art through handmade pieces crafted from raw materials sourced across Africa.
IAMISIGO's artistic vision
Bubu Ogisi emphasized the collection’s intent to challenge existing norms and propose new strategies for creative expression. She stated that the show aimed to demonstrate how individuals can move beyond the current status quo and inspire new ways of thinking about fashion and art.
Scenography by Hubert Crabieres
The scenography for the IAMISIGO show was designed by French visual artist Hubert Crabieres. He created a concept that broke away from the conventional, focusing on the use of color and the expressive construction of clothing, which he found distinct from European aesthetics and more in line with his experience in Lagos.
Lagos Fashion Week's influence
The Lagos Fashion Week provides a platform for African designers to develop their brand identity by drawing from traditional African influences as well as contemporary and Western styles. Senegalese designer and content creator Amina Ladymya noted that the event highlights a depth of creativity often missing in Western luxury fashion.
Sustainability in Lagos Fashion Week
The Lagos Fashion Week increasingly integrates sustainability into its vision of fashion and garment production. This is reflected in the selection of designers who prioritize eco-conscious practices and materials in their work.
