Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 Released on Nintendo Switch 2

Franchise re-release details

Konami has re-released METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2 on August 27, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. The collection includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots, Metal Gear: Solid Peace Walker (HD Collection Version), and a bonus game: Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel.

Game content and platforms

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of Patriots was originally released exclusively for the Playstation 3 in 2008. It is set in 2014, five years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2, and follows an older Solid Snake who is a clone with nanomachines affecting his appearance and abilities.

Gameplay and features of MGS4

The game emphasizes stealth, gadgets, and hand-to-hand combat, with bosses that have specific patterns to defeat. The graphics, originally impressive on PS3, remain visually appealing on the Nintendo Switch 2. The game offers full French translation, with language options available in the main menu.

Setting and gameplay of Peace Walker

Metal Gear: Solid Peace Walker takes place in 1974, 10 years after MGS3, and follows Big Boss as he builds a mercenary army called the soldiers without borders (MSF). The game combines main and secondary missions with a focus on managing the Mother Base.

Cross-play and co-op in Peace Walker

The game supports co-op play between Switch 1 and 2, and includes missions with Monster Hunter where players can face creatures like Rathalos and GEAR REX. The story is presented in a comic book style, and the game is fully translated into French.

Bonus game in the collection

Ghost Babel is a bonus game included in the collection, originally released for Game Boy Color in 2000. It is not part of the main series and plays in a 2D top-down style similar to early Metal Gear titles. The game consists of 13 chapters and 200 additional VR missions.

Gameplay and limitations of Ghost Babel

Ghost Babel offers a short story mode, taking about five hours to complete, with many missions being repetitive. The game's graphics are limited by the Game Boy Color hardware, even by its original release standards. French language support is available in the options.

Overall assessment of the collection

METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2 provides a strong selection of games, including MGS 4 which wraps up the Solid Snake story and Peace Walker, which is praised for its gameplay. The addition of Ghost Babel offers a nostalgic experience, though its dated graphics may be a drawback for some players.
