Bouygues Telecom is preparing to launch the Kids Watch TCL MT48, a new version of its connected watch for children, in the coming weeks. The watch is designed for children aged 9 and above and will be available for purchase starting October 12. While the exact price has not been officially announced, the previous model, the MT46, was sold for 73 euros, and the new version is expected to cost around 130 euros. The watch comes with a 2 GB data plan priced at 9.99 euros per month, which allows for basic connectivity features. The Kids Watch TCL MT48 includes several safety and convenience features. It offers real-time geolocation so parents can track their child’s location, and a "School Mode" that disables most functions except for showing the time, ensuring the child can focus on schoolwork. It also allows the child to send predefined messages to parents or approved contacts. The watch is now IP68 certified, meaning it can withstand water from rain, splashes, and even short immersion in water, making it more durable for everyday use. Additionally, it features a magnetic charger, replacing the traditional micro-USB port, which is more convenient and less prone to damage. Unlike many smartwatches, the Kids Watch TCL MT48 does not provide access to the Internet or social media platforms. However, it supports communication through voice calls, video calls, and messages with parents and approved contacts. This design focuses on safety and direct communication rather than unrestricted online access. Bouygues Telecom also emphasizes its Child Mode feature, a free parental control tool integrated into its mobile app. This feature allows parents to monitor their child’s screen time, filter web content, block specific apps, pause internet access, or even locate the child's smartphone in real time. Importantly, these controls cannot be disabled by the child, ensuring that parents maintain oversight of their child’s digital activities.
