Guide supports female farmers
A new guide titled Mains fortes has been published to provide practical advice and insights for female farmers and agricultural employees, addressing both professional and personal challenges they face. Compiled from testimonies of 70 women in the agricultural sector, the guide aims to help women navigate the complexities of farming, including legal and marital statuses, social protection, physical and mental health, self-assertion, and professional commitment.Guide's structure and focus
The publication, initiated by Agrica, a group specializing in complementary agricultural social protection, was launched on October 14, the day before the International Day of Rural Women. The guide is structured into four main chapters: "being autonomous and protecting yourself," "bringing your vision to life and passing it on," "taking care of yourself," and "committing."First chapter emphasizes legal and personal autonomy
The first chapter addresses legal and marital statuses, social coverage, and financial statements, emphasizing that the status is not merely a formality but a way of deciding how to live and work. The second part focuses on self-assertion, highlighting the importance of valuing oneself to be fully recognized in the profession, manage a farm, innovate, and invest.Focus on self-care and health
The theme of "taking care of yourself" is extensively covered, focusing on the balance between professional and personal life. It discusses solutions to adapt the job to the individual rather than the other way around, emphasizing the need to preserve physical and mental health. The guide also addresses the challenges of musculoskeletal disorders, which women are more susceptible to due to equipment not always being adapted to their needs. Preventive measures and adaptations are recommended.Final chapter highlights commitment and representation
The final chapter, "committing," emphasizes the importance of involvement in agricultural bodies and the different perspectives female farmers bring. It notes that while women are underrepresented in the Cuma network, they contribute a unique and complementary vision to the sector. The guide encourages women to participate in agricultural organizations not for recognition but to contribute to the resilience and sustainability of agriculture.Personal experiences and real-world advice
The guide includes personal reflections and experiences from female farmers, highlighting the challenges they face, such as the physical and mental demands of farming, the need for work-life balance, and the importance of self-care. It also touches on issues such as sexual and gender-based violence, providing guidance on how to recognize and respond to such issues. The publication aims to be a practical resource for female farmers, offering real-world advice and experiences from those who have navigated similar challenges.
