New taxi station opens in Lyon

A new taxi station has been inaugurated at Place Basse Béraudier, in front of the Part-Dieu train station in Lyon's 3rd arrondissement. The station, which opened last week, provides 24 spaces for taxis that have been booked in advance, offering travelers a dedicated area to meet their rides.

Station details and operating hours

Located at Place Basse Béraudier on level -1, the station was officially opened on Thursday, October 29. It features 24 spaces specifically for taxis, with areas designated for drop-offs and pickups. The station is open daily from 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., including holidays, and operates only through reservations.

How the system works

Travelers must follow signage within the station to reach the meeting point. Once there, the taxi driver arrives to pick up passengers and then drives them to their vehicle. According to Guillaume Curnier, general director of LPA Mobilités, drivers come from the Vivier-Merle tunnel and have a 45-minute window to pick up their client before exiting through Rue Bonnel.

Support from local officials

Gilles Gascon, vice president of the Lyon Metropolis responsible for mobility and public transport, emphasized that the station aims to simplify travel for passengers. He noted that the station was "very much awaited by the taxis and by the Metropolis." Florent Sainte Fare Garnot, general director of the Lyon Part-Dieu SPL, said the station is part of a larger effort to integrate different forms of transportation more efficiently.

Complementing existing infrastructure

The new station at Place Basse Béraudier does not replace the existing taxi station on Rue de la Villette, which remains open for travelers who do not have prior reservations. The new station complements the Part-Dieu exchange hub, which brings together trains, public transport, the Rhônexpress, road stations, and bicycle facilities.

Lyon's taxi network and future goals

The Lyon Metropolis has around 1,500 taxis in its area. With this new station, officials hope to improve the organization of taxi circulation. Gilles Gascon concluded that the Metropolis is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to reliable mobility options.
