A new animated television series inspired by the famous detective Sherlock Holmes is currently in development, according to recent reports. The project is being led by Jonathan Sercombe, who is both the head of the production company Harry King Television and the author of a book series called The Unexpurgated Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. This series aims to offer a fresh take on the classic character, drawing from Sercombe’s own written interpretations. David Lipman, known for his work on the Shrek franchise, will be involved in producing the series. In an interview with Variety, Sercombe explained that the animated format allows for a "grand, more inventive, and bolder" reimagination of Sherlock Holmes. He emphasized that the series will not be a direct adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories but rather a new and creative universe that retains the essence of the character. The upcoming series promises to be "timeless and completely new," filled with "character, humor, and adventure." Sercombe described it as an "unofficial offspring" of Doyle's original creation, meaning it will be inspired by the original stories but not a direct continuation of them. This approach allows for creative freedom while still honoring the legacy of the iconic detective. At present, the series has not yet secured a broadcaster, meaning it is still in the early stages of production and distribution planning. Fans of Sherlock Holmes and animated storytelling alike will be watching closely to see how this new project develops and what kind of world it brings to life.
