Saint-Étienne's transport faces minimal disruptions due to a strike by Stas employees demanding a fuel allowance and better negotiations.
Strike impacts Saint-Étienne transport
Urban transport networks in Saint-Étienne have experienced "minimal disruptions" due to a strike by Stas employees, according to a statement from the Saint-Étienne metropolitan transport network (Stas) on October 14. The disruptions affect bus and metro services in the city on Friday, October 16.Cause of the disruptions
These disruptions are attributed to "social movement," according to the Stas. The union SNTU CFDT Saint-Étienne Stas called for a strike on Friday and Saturday. The union, in a Facebook post, demands a fuel allowance for employees.Union's reasoning
"Stas employees cannot rely on public transport to go to work, as they are the ones who drive the buses and trams," explains the SNTU-CFDT. In addition to this allowance, union members are requesting the opening of mandatory annual negotiations "to obtain support in this context of declining purchasing power."Service adjustments
Some lines will operate normally. The tram lines T1, T2, and T3 will circulate with adjusted schedules. The same applies to metro lines M1, M3, M4, M6, and M7. Only the trains on lines M2, M5, and M9 "will operate normally."Affected bus routes
Several bus lines will also be affected by these demonstrations. Buses 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24, 40, 41, and 45 will be in operation with adjusted schedules. The strike notice also applies to Saturday.Future updates
The SNTU-CFDT union expects a "more intense mobilization." The Stas will publish an update on the disruptions for Saturday by the end of the afternoon on Thursday, October 15.
