Several hundred people entered an abandoned hall in the Confluence district of Lyon during the night of Friday to Saturday. The unauthorized event continued for over 30 hours, despite the presence of law enforcement.

Rave party disrupts neighborhood

A wild rave party took place in the Confluence district of Lyon for more than a day. Shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, participants entered an abandoned hall on the Cours Charlemagne, near the H7 and the Quai Perrache. Techno music continued to play throughout the day and night, causing noise disturbances for nearby residents.

Clashes with police occur

The situation quickly escalated with law enforcement. Around 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, some participants threw projectiles and fired fireworks toward the police. The police responded with tear gas, and a police operation surrounded the gathering.

Party continues despite intervention

Despite the police presence, the participants continued the party until Sunday, November 1. They finally left the area after more than 30 hours of festivities.

Security measures in place

This rave party took place in a context of enhanced security in Lyon. Due to demonstrations against the high cost of living and risks of overflows related to Halloween, the prefect of the Rhône had taken several measures for the evening of October 31.

Restrictions on gatherings and fireworks

From 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day, the prefecture prohibited gatherings, processions, and crowds in a large part of the Presqu'île. It also imposed a curfew on minors without the accompaniment of a legal guardian or an adult. The prefect also prohibited the transport and use of pyrotechnics in the department until November 2 at 6 a.m.

Increased police presence

The prefecture intended to prevent violence and damage during Halloween night. To manage this day of October 31, more than 1,000 police officers, gendarmes, and soldiers patrolled the Lyonnaise area.
