Bose has launched a new line of wired noise-cancelling earbuds, called Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds (ANC), which will be available for purchase starting October 15. Priced at approximately 100 CHF or 100 €, these earbuds are positioned as an affordable option compared to the company's more expensive wireless models. This marks Bose’s return to the wired earbud market after several years of absence; its last wired model with active noise cancellation was removed from its product lineup in 2022. The decision to reintroduce wired earbuds seems to be influenced by the growing popularity of retro-style devices, especially among younger consumers, who are showing renewed interest in analog and wired technology.
The new earbuds use a USB-C connection directly powered by the device they are connected to, eliminating the need for batteries or charging. Unlike many modern earbuds, they do not include Bluetooth, batteries, or apps, focusing instead on a simple, no-frills listening experience with a strong emphasis on noise cancellation at home. Each earbud contains four microphones—two per earbud—to analyze surrounding sounds and reduce noise. According to reports from Bloomberg, the noise cancellation is less effective than that of Bose’s second-generation QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, but it is still capable of significantly reducing noise in environments like a crowded metro train or a busy café.
The wired design of the earbuds offers several advantages, including lossless audio quality, extremely low latency, and no issues with battery life. They will be available in black, white, and mint green, with the latter being a limited edition. Bose previously combined wiring with noise cancellation in its QuietComfort 20 model, released in 2013. However, that design required a battery module attached to the cable. The new earbuds, by contrast, do not require batteries, as they are powered directly by the connected device.
The earbuds offer three modes: Silent, which maximizes noise reduction; Aware, which allows the user to hear their surroundings; and a mode where noise cancellation is disabled. The operation is straightforward, with no need for Bluetooth pairing or app installation. A remote control on the 1.28-meter cable allows users to adjust volume, control playback, answer calls, and switch between listening modes. A microphone located on the back of the remote is used for voice calls. The earbuds are compatible only with USB-C ports and cannot be used with older devices that only have a Lightning port. They are available for pre-order, with deliveries expected in mid-October 2026.
