YouTube Shopping expands to France

YouTube Shopping has officially launched in France, enabling content creators with at least 500 subscribers to earn money by recommending products in their videos. The feature was unveiled during the YouTube Festival 2026 and became accessible on October 13, 2026.

How creators can monetize product tags

Creators can tag products in their videos, Shorts, or live streams, and receive a commission on any sales made through those tags. This allows them to earn income without needing to include affiliate links in their video descriptions.

Product tagging and viewer interaction

When a product is tagged, a Shopping button appears, letting viewers see the list of tagged products and be directed to the merchant’s website to complete their purchase. Long-form videos can include up to 60 tagged products, as long as they are integrated naturally and mentioned either verbally or in text.

Timestamping and AI assistance

For videos longer than one minute, a timestamping feature shows the product tag at the exact moment the product is mentioned. Creators can either manually select products to tag or use YouTube’s AI, which analyzes the video, title, description, and subtitles to automatically label products or suggest them from its catalog.

Commission structure and program benefits

The program operates on an affiliation model, where creators earn a commission on each sale made through their recommendations. The commission percentage varies depending on the brand or partner involved. YouTube claims the program creates a "true virtuous circle," benefiting creators, brands, and viewers.

Increased engagement and relaxed eligibility

According to YouTube, product tags have generated up to 110% more clicks compared to links in video descriptions, and creators’ commissions have more than doubled year-over-year. The program’s eligibility criteria have also been relaxed, now requiring only 500 subscribers and adherence to community guidelines, rather than the previous 20,000-subscriber threshold.
