France's Education Minister promises to resolve teacher replacement issues in priority high schools by the end of autumn vacation, addressing concerns over the Parcoursup platform.
Replacement issues to be resolved by autumn break
The replacement issues in 114 high schools marked as priorities by the Ministry of National Education will be resolved by the end of the autumn vacation, according to Minister Édouard Geffray during a visit to Gironde.Geffray outlines progress
During a visit to a high school in Gradignan, near Bordeaux, Geffray explained that the majority of cases, especially those classified as "red" due to particular difficulties, would be resolved. He noted that there were 114 such schools last Thursday, but only 47 remained as of the morning of his visit.Teacher replacements underway
Of the 3,000 teachers called in as emergency replacements last week, Geffray stated that almost two-thirds had already been assigned. He also mentioned that over 200 additional staff had been recruited within the 900 positions authorized by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu.Geffray engages with students
The Education Minister spent an hour discussing with high school students after visiting another high school in the Bordeaux suburbs, which had been partially looted last week in Lormont. He reiterated the government's commitment to addressing criticisms of the Parcoursup platform, used for university admissions in France.Plans for Parcoursup improvements
Geffray said concrete measures to improve the Parcoursup platform would be communicated by the end of October. These measures will address the platform itself, as well as the orientation process before it and the responses given to students afterward, focusing on the transparency of selection criteria by higher education institutions.
