BeNEX orders electric trains for Germany

The BeNEX holding, a company that owns shares in seven German transportation operators, has placed an order with Siemens Mobility for 56 electric multiple units to be showcased at the InnoTrans 2026 exhibition. These trains will later be used on the Regionalverkehr Mainfranken network, which operates regional rail services in parts of Germany.

Deployment starts in 2030

The operation of these new trains will be managed by BeNEX’s subsidiary, agilis, starting in December 2030. This marks a significant step in modernizing regional rail transport in the region, with the new units expected to enhance service quality and efficiency.

Train specifications and features

The order includes 30 Mireo three-car units, each with a seating capacity of 210 passengers, two restrooms, and 18 bicycle parking spaces. Additionally, 26 Desiro HC four-car units will be supplied, featuring two levels, a seating capacity of 424 passengers, three restrooms, and 39 bicycle parking spaces. These units are designed to be accessible for people with reduced mobility.

Advanced technology and connectivity

The Mireo and Desiro HC units will be equipped with the European ETCS and German PZB signaling systems, ensuring safe and efficient train operations. They will also include features such as wifi, USB sockets, and real-time data transmission through Siemens Railigent X, providing diagnostic and passenger count data for improved service management.

Routes and coverage

The new trains will operate on approximately 330 km of track in Bavaria and Hesse, covering key routes such as the line from Frankfurt to Würzburg to Nuremberg and Bamberg. This expansion is expected to improve connectivity and travel convenience for passengers in these regions.
