The upcoming expansion Songs of the Past for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is expected to release in early 2027, according to several reports. Developed by Fool's Theory, the expansion will be led by creative director Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz, who confirmed in an interview with Video Game Chronicles that the story will adapt to the player's choices. Players are not required to complete the previous expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, to enjoy Songs of the Past. However, finishing these expansions might influence certain dialogues, character appearances, and unique items in the new content. A remastered version of The Witcher 3, called The Witcher 3 Remastered, was released on September 29, 2026. This updated version includes the base game and its previous expansions and is available at no cost to players who already own a prior version of the game on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. This release is considered a good opportunity for players to complete the base game and its expansions before the arrival of Songs of the Past. According to How Long to Beat, a website that tracks game completion times, the base game of The Witcher 3 takes around 51 hours to complete the main story and about 102 hours to finish everything. Hearts of Stone requires approximately 10 hours for the main story and 17 hours for full completion, while Blood and Wine takes about 15 hours for the main story and 40 hours to finish all content. Songs of the Past is expected to have a playtime similar to that of Blood and Wine. To prepare for Songs of the Past, players are advised to finish Blood and Wine to better understand the narrative connections. Having a complete Grand Master equipment set and a strong character build is also recommended. While completing Hearts of Stone and choosing the main romance between Yennefer and Triss are not mandatory, they can enhance the experience. Additionally, achieving a "good ending" regarding Ciri is suggested to ensure a logical transition into The Witcher 4, which is expected to be released after Songs of the Past.
