Lucie Malchirand, a French golfer who recently won the Pas-de-Calais Open in Saint-Omer in the Hauts-de-France region, is now competing at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open. Her goal this season is to enter the top 7 of the order of merit, a ranking system that determines eligibility for the Ladies European Tour (LET) next year. This week’s performance could be pivotal for her, as she aims to achieve this goal and secure her place in the LET. Malchirand, who is from Marseille, described her experience at Terre Blanche as feeling like home, explaining that although Saint-Omer is also in France, it is far from her hometown. Terre Blanche, by contrast, is closer to her family and friends, making it a more familiar and comforting environment for her. Malchirand has been working with coaches Raphaël Jacquelin and Alain Alberti since the Montauban Ladies Open 2025. She noted that her swing has evolved over time, shifting from a draw-heavy technique to a fade-based one. This change has improved her consistency, as her good shots are more reliable and her poor ones are less costly. Raphaël Jacquelin, one of her coaches, will be present at the tournament this week, supporting her efforts. Her victory in Saint-Omer has shifted her focus from qualifying through cards to securing a top 7 position, which would guarantee her a direct entry into the LET for next season. After the Lavaux Ladies Open, Malchirand took a three-week break to maintain her mental well-being. She finds it challenging to keep up with back-to-back tournaments and prefers a rhythm of preparation, competition, and rest. She plans to participate in all remaining tournaments this season and continue with the strategies that have worked for her recently. She is currently in good form and hopes for similar success this week, much like she achieved in Saint-Omer, where she nearly won the Lavaux Ladies Open shortly after her Saint-Omer victory. This season has been successful for Malchirand in France, with a podium finish at the Montauban Ladies Open and a victory in Saint-Omer. Her father will be at the tournament, along with friends and her boyfriend, who will serve as her caddie—someone who previously caddied for her in South Africa. Malchirand is one of two French women in the top 10 of the order of merit, alongside Lauren Holmey, with whom she has a friendly rivalry. Both are 23 years old, with Holmey from Paris and Malchirand from Marseille. They have known each other since childhood and share a mutual respect. Outside of golf, Malchirand enjoys playing tennis with her mother and boyfriend, going to the gym regularly, and participating in various water sports. She also finds relief in hitting her driver, which helps her manage stress. Her diverse interests and strong support system contribute to her overall performance and mental well-being on the golf course.
