Cold Iron Studios has released Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, a sequel to its 2021 cooperative third-person shooter inspired by the Alien franchise. The game follows a squad of Colonial Marines as they investigate a distress call on LV-558, a mining planet where the Storr Boon installation has stopped responding. The mission quickly turns into a nightmare as Xenomorphs—fearsome creatures from the Alien movies—and other threats overwhelm the team. The game builds on the formula of its predecessor, allowing up to four players to cooperate, compared to the previous limit of three. New classes, including a Specialist class that combines different abilities, have been introduced, along with expanded customization options and revised progression systems. The arsenal has also been expanded, offering more ways to modify weapon behavior. Xenomorph encounters are more numerous and aggressive, with new enemy variants and an enriched Horde mode returning for additional replayability. The game retains the nerve-wracking atmosphere of its predecessor, emphasizing teamwork and adaptability in combat. Players can progress and customize their characters, weapons, and skills over time. However, the game's structure can become repetitive, with missions relying on classic objectives such as advancing through environments, defending positions, and retrieving objects. Some players may find the combat system limited, especially when dealing with large numbers of Xenomorphs, and the artificial intelligence of enemies may appear simplistic. Technically, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is similar to its predecessor, with environments and models largely inherited from the first game. The artistic direction and lighting contribute to the atmosphere, but visual polish is uneven. The sound design is more convincing, with effective use of Xenomorph screams, alarms, and ambient noise. However, some weapon effects lack impact, and technical issues were reported in the initial release, though a patch released on September 17, 2026, addressed some of these problems. The campaign includes 15 missions across four environments, lasting around eight to twelve hours depending on the pace and difficulty. While more substantial than the first game, some missions reuse similar areas and structures, potentially leading to a sense of repetition. The game is described as a satisfactory experience for fans of the franchise, offering an accessible and cathartic cooperative experience but lacking the ambition to significantly differentiate itself from its predecessor.
