Samsung releases One UI 9 update

Samsung has started rolling out One UI 9, its latest software interface based on Android 17, to a range of Galaxy devices. The update was first released in late July for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8, and Z Flip 8, and was officially expanded to other devices on September 16, starting with the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra.

Update availability by region

The One UI 9 update is already available in France for the Galaxy S26. According to Winfuture, the update is being deployed on several Galaxy models, including various Galaxy S, Z, and A series devices. The deployment is happening in waves, with South Korea receiving it first, followed by other countries about a week later, though exact dates vary by region.

Update size and installation tips

The One UI 9 update for the Galaxy S23 series weighs approximately 3.85 GB, while beta testers downloaded a much smaller file of less than 500 MB. Users are advised to install the update via Wi-Fi, ensure sufficient storage space is available, and back up important data before proceeding.

New features and improvements

The update includes a refreshed design for system applications and notification cards, a more customizable quick settings menu, and the October 2026 security patch. On the Galaxy A series, the update is expected to improve application launch times and animation smoothness.

AI features and exclusions

Heavy AI features remain exclusive to newer Galaxy S models and foldables starting from the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, as well as tablets from the Tab S9 to Tab S11 series. The Privacy Alerts feature, which uses AI to detect suspicious background access to permissions, is planned for Galaxy S23 to S26, foldables from Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, and tablets from Tab S9 to Tab S11. No Galaxy A models are included in this list, and no Galaxy Tab has yet received One UI 9, with no official release date provided for these devices.

Update schedule for other models

Samsung has not given a schedule for the update to other smartphones such as the Galaxy A from A55 to A15, A08, A07, A06, Galaxy M from M06, and reinforced models XCover 7 and XCover 7 Pro. Users can check for updates by opening Settings, then Software Update, and searching for One UI 9.
