A new survey by consumer advocacy group Which? has once again named Manchester Airport Terminal 3 as the worst airport in the UK, scoring just 52% in the 2026 rankings. This marks the fourth year in a row that the terminal has received the lowest score. The survey gathered feedback from over 6,000 passengers across 8,000 trips, evaluating several aspects of the travel experience such as late flight cancellations, food and drink availability, check-in and passport control queues, cleanliness, seating comfort, and the overall layout of the terminal. Manchester Terminal 3 scored poorly in all areas, with ratings of only 2 out of 5 for customer service, check-in queues, security lines, passport control, baggage reclaim, seating, food and drink options, and cleanliness. The survey highlighted the terminal’s poor design as a major problem. Passengers described the layout as confusing and inconvenient, with excessive walking distances and a lack of consideration for traveler comfort. One traveler said the experience was "defined by poor layout and a lack of passenger consideration," while another mentioned that the terminal’s design was worsened by the integration of areas from the old Terminal 1. Other complaints included long check-in lines, 20-minute waits for cafés and restrooms, and a lack of seating for passengers to rest. In response to the survey, Manchester Airport acknowledged the findings and mentioned that it is currently working on a multi-million-pound refurbishment project. This includes replacing outdated moving walkways and improving the overall layout of the terminal. The airport also noted that 75% of its passengers experienced security wait times of five minutes or less, indicating some areas of improvement. In contrast, Exeter Airport was ranked the best in the UK, earning an impressive 83% score. Travelers praised the airport for its efficient operations, including short queues, a clean environment, and comfortable seating. The airport’s compact size contributed to its efficiency, with a two-minute walk from the car park to the terminal and no reported queues. The top 10 airports in the UK for 2026, according to the survey, include Exeter at number one, followed by Liverpool (John Lennon), London City, Norwich, Cardiff, Bournemouth, East Midlands, Southampton, Belfast City (George Best), and Newcastle.
