Sucker Punch, the game development studio known for Ghost of Yōtei, has released the Complete Edition of the game, offering both an upgrade for current owners and a version for those who missed the original launch. This edition includes two major additions: "Echoes of Sekigahara," a narrative expansion that extends the story, and "Public Enemy," a roguelike mode that adds new gameplay challenges. These additions aim to enhance the experience for players who have already completed the base game or are new to it. "Echoes of Sekigahara" is a downloadable content (DLC) that takes place during the main game’s timeline and becomes available after completing specific key quests. It follows Atsu, the game’s heroine, as she searches for Nagato, a significant figure from her past, leading her to the Ashoro hills. This region is controlled by the Vipers, a group of former followers of the Snake, a major antagonist in the game. The DLC delves into Atsu’s history, including the historical Battle of Sekigahara, and introduces a new character with whom she shares a meaningful but reserved relationship. This expansion adds around ten hours of gameplay, with even more content requiring additional time to complete. The Ashoro region in "Echoes of Sekigahara" emphasizes the relationship between humans and nature, featuring a wolf that travels with Atsu throughout the area. Players will find new quests, rewards, and points of interest, along with new weapons and armor that have special abilities. However, the large weapons used in battles can only be used a limited number of times before they break, adding a layer of strategy to combat. "Public Enemy" is a roguelike mode that operates independently of the main story. In this mode, players must survive waves of enemies, collect temporary advantages, and face members of the Six of Yōtei, a group of powerful characters from the game. Rewards from this mode allow players to purchase permanent upgrades, such as skill trees, items, weapon damage, and charms. New playable characters, including Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin Sakai, join Atsu, each bringing unique abilities and playstyles. While the mode offers a variety of build options and challenges, it lacks the depth and complexity of a full game on its own. The Complete Edition does not drastically alter the core experience of Ghost of Yōtei but adds enough content to give players a reason to return. The narrative DLC deepens Atsu’s character and introduces a new region, while "Public Enemy" effectively uses the game’s combat system for fresh challenges. The Complete Edition is priced reasonably, making it a recommended upgrade for both returning players and those discovering the game for the first time.
