The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, a popular electric hatchback, is set to receive several upgrades for the 2027 model year. These improvements include a slight increase in range and the addition of new technology features, all without raising the starting price. The larger-battery models will now offer a maximum claimed range of 259 miles, up from 250 miles, while the entry-level Evolution model will have a maximum claimed range of 197 miles. These enhancements are the result of aerodynamic improvements, such as a lower body and redesigned door mirrors, as well as upgrades to the battery's electronics. Despite these upgrades, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric will remain affordable, with prices starting at £21,495 on the road. The vehicle will also continue to qualify for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, which helps reduce the cost of purchasing an electric vehicle in the UK. The four-model lineup—Evolution, Techno+, Iconic Five+, and Roland Garros+—will stay the same, though new color options will be introduced later in the year. Additionally, a new Smartmode driving setting will be added, which automatically switches between eco, comfort, and sport driving modes based on current road conditions. Several interior and technological features will also be updated. The dedicated multi-sense button on the steering wheel has been removed, but drivers can still choose their preferred driving mode via the central touchscreen or voice command. A new magnetic wireless charger with cooling technology will be included, using the Qi2 charging standard and capable of charging a compatible phone to 50 percent in just one hour. The emergency call system will also be upgraded to work with newer 4G and 5G mobile networks, improving connectivity in case of an accident. Inside the car, the Iconic Five+ model will feature a new mottled blue upholstery, replacing its previous yellow design, with smaller updates to materials and stitching across the range. New exterior colors like Flame Red and Shadow Grey will be introduced later this year, along with new sticker packs for buyers. Midnight Blue models in the Techno+ and Iconic Five+ trims will now feature a contrasting red roofline, adding a distinctive visual element to these variants. An optional software update will also bring Google's Gemini AI assistant to the car, allowing for more natural and interactive conversations with the vehicle's system.
