Xpeng unveils the G9L, a luxury electric SUV priced under 90,000 euros, at the Paris Motor Show, aiming to challenge established European premium brands.
Xpeng unveils new European model at Paris Motor Show
Xpeng introduced the G9L at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026, marking its latest addition to its European lineup. The G9L is the brand's most affordable model and is positioned as a flagship, with the "L" in its name representing "Luxury" rather than "long," despite being 23 cm longer than the G9.Dimensions and local production
The G9L measures 5.12 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and 1.78 to 1.79 meters in height, with a 3.10-meter wheelbase. It is produced at the Magna plant in Graz, Austria, where Xpeng also assembles the G6, G9, and P7+ models. This local production helps the brand avoid European surtaxes on electric vehicles from China.Design and interior features
The G9L features an imposing yet clean design, drawing inspiration from the Range Rover, with frameless windows, large 21-inch wheels, and a double light bar. The color palette includes Arctic White, Diamond Black, Mirror Gray, and Waving Green, with additional colors available at an extra cost. The interior includes six or seven seats, with the six-seater Ultra variant offering individually heated, massaging, and ventilated seats in the second row.Technology and comfort features
The G9L is equipped with a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, the XOS system using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and an XPENG Turing AI chip. The vehicle includes advanced driving assistance systems with two XPENG Turing AI chips. Features such as electric doors, a step that deploys when opening, and a 21.4-inch ceiling screen for the rear passengers are included. The interior also features an XOpera audio system with 23 speakers and active noise reduction.Performance and pricing options
The G9L offers three versions: Extended Range (7-seater propulsion, 74,990 euros, 367 hp, 591 km WLTP range), Performance (7-seater all-wheel drive, 79,990 euros, 585 hp, 553 km WLTP range), and Performance (6-seater all-wheel drive, 85,990 euros, same performance figures). It has an NMC battery compatible with 5C charging and an 800 V platform, allowing a charge from 10 to 80% in 12 minutes.Market positioning and challenges
Xpeng positions the G9L as a competitor to luxury brands with models exceeding 200,000 euros, targeting a "family decision-maker" aged 55 to 60 years. The brand highlights a 7-year warranty and an 8-year battery warranty. The G9L's price is significantly lower than the new electric Land Rover Range Rover, which starts at 161,500 euros. However, the G9L may face challenges in the European market due to competition from established premium brands.
