Flydubai nearing completion of AMC

Flydubai announced that the construction of its Aircraft Maintenance Centre (AMC) in Dubai South is nearing completion. The center recently welcomed a delegation led by Ghaith Al Ghaith, the general director of the low-cost airline from Dubai (UAE), to inspect the construction site on October 22.

Completion and operational phase

The completion of the works is expected in the coming weeks, followed by a phase of operational preparation and system integration before the center is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027. This will allow time for staff training and testing of systems before full operations begin.

Facilities and location

Located within the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH), in close proximity to the Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), the new MRO center of 32,600 square meters will include three heavy maintenance hangars, specialized workshops, storage and material management spaces, as well as administrative offices. The location is strategically chosen to support the airline's operations and the broader aerospace industry in the region.

Employment and investment

It is expected to employ 400 technical professionals once fully operational. Representing an investment of 190 million dollars, the construction of the new MRO center was launched in July 2025 to support the future growth of the company's fleet. This investment reflects Flydubai's commitment to expanding its infrastructure and capabilities.

Operational benefits and strategy

Flydubai presents this investment as a means to reduce downtime, improve the availability of its aircraft, and strengthen quality control. Ghaith Al Ghaith notes that the internalization of these capabilities should bring greater flexibility, resilience, and operational efficiency as the fleet and network expand. The center also fits into the company's long-term strategy around DWC Airport.

Current fleet and future plans

Flydubai currently operates with a fleet of 98 single-aisle Boeing aircraft (25 737-800, 69 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9) and plans to end the year with 100 aircraft. Its order book exceeds 300 aircraft, including 30 Boeing 787s expected to be delivered starting in early 2028 and 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft deliverable starting in 2031. These future deliveries will require expanded maintenance and operational support, which the new AMC aims to provide.
