Proton VPN has officially launched a native app for Amazon’s new Vega OS Fire TV Sticks, joining a growing list of top-tier providers that are adapting to the next generation of streaming devices. This means users can now download the app directly from their smart TVs, without needing to use a separate device or software. Proton is the latest in a small group of major VPN services to support Amazon’s latest operating system. Amazon’s transition from its traditional Android-based Fire OS to the streamlined Vega OS has caused a stir in the streaming world. While the new system offers improved performance and security, it has also required app developers to create entirely new software. For users who rely on virtual private networks (VPNs) to protect their online privacy and access geo-restricted content, this change initially created some challenges. Proton’s new app is designed specifically for the Linux-based Vega OS, ensuring users can maintain their privacy without compromising their streaming experience. Older Android-based apps no longer work on the new system, but Proton’s native app allows users to secure their internet connection, hide their IP address, and unblock streaming libraries directly from their television. This makes it easier for users to avoid issues like bandwidth throttling or data tracking while binge-watching their favorite shows. For consumers, having a native app is essential because it eliminates the need for complicated manual configurations that would otherwise be required to set up a VPN on a router. As more users upgrade to the new Fire TV Sticks, the demand for compatible privacy tools has grown. Proton is not alone in this effort—other major providers such as NordVPN, IPVanish, Surfshark, and ExpressVPN have also released their own apps for the Vega OS. With several high-quality options now available, users have more choices than ever when it comes to securing their streaming devices. Proton’s entry into the Vega OS ecosystem is particularly notable for its commitment to open-source transparency, which many privacy-conscious users value highly. For those looking to protect their online activity while enjoying their favorite shows, the growing support for Vega OS by top-tier VPN providers is a significant step forward in smart home security.
