New connector found in Google's AI system

A specialized website, Android Authority, discovered a new connector linked to Gemini, Google's AI assistant, in the list of applications on a Pixel 9 running Android 17 QPR3 beta 2. This is a test version of the upcoming quarterly Android update.

Connector enables eSIM control

The connector allows Gemini to manage SIM Manager, a Google app that downloads operator profiles to eliminate the need for a physical SIM card. Users can ask Gemini to perform tasks like installing a new eSIM profile or transferring a profile between devices.

Connector tested successfully

Android Authority tested one of the suggested requests, and Gemini successfully initiated the installation of an eSIM. However, the connector does not appear on other devices like the OnePlus 13R or the Galaxy S25 Plus tested by the site.

Connector has limitations

The connector's details page specifies what Gemini must refuse. It does not activate an already installed eSIM, does not touch data plans or call history, and does not manage physical SIM cards. It also rejects vague requests like "configure my SIM" due to ambiguity.

Feature remains exclusive to Pixel devices

For now, the connector is only available on Pixel devices. Google has not provided a release date or a list of compatible devices, and the feature may still change before the stable version of Android 17 QPR3 is released.
