Apple has released the iOS 26.6.2 update to fix a problem that was stopping users from downloading upcoming software updates over cellular networks. This update came about three weeks after the iOS 26.6.1 release and is meant to prepare devices for the upcoming iOS 27, which is expected to be launched with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo. According to Apple’s official notes, this update resolves an issue that could block users from downloading iOS 27 using their 4G or 5G mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. This fix is especially important for users who don’t have access to a Wi-Fi connection and rely on mobile data for updates. In addition to iPhones, Apple has also rolled out the iPadOS 26.6.2 update to address the same cellular download issue on its tablets. This ensures that iPad users can also receive future software updates without needing a Wi-Fi connection. The upcoming iOS 27 will be compatible with a wide range of iPhones, including the iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, Air, SE 2, and SE 3. The iPhone 18 and iPhone Duo, however, will run iOS 27 natively, meaning they will be designed specifically for the new operating system. For iPad users, the iPadOS 27 update will be available on several models, including the iPad Pro 12.9 inches 4th generation and later, iPad Pro 11 inches 2nd generation and later, iPad Air 4th generation and later, iPad 9th generation and later, and iPad mini 6th generation and later. Apple is expected to officially announce the release date of the final versions of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 during its back-to-school keynote event. This event is likely to take place in late August or early September 2026, with the general availability of the new operating systems expected to coincide with the launch of the new iPhone models on Friday, September 18, 2026.
