Pauline Cittadini resigns as Carpentras councillor, citing inability to reconcile her values with the current political climate dominated by the far right.
Resignation of a municipal councillor
Pauline Cittadini, a councillor from the opposition in Carpentras, announced her resignation on Tuesday, October 20, seven months after the municipal elections. She had been part of the diverse left faction and had previously supported outgoing mayor Serge Andrieu, but found herself in the minority in a city where the extreme right, led by mayor Hervé de Lépinau (RN), secured victory.Reasons for leaving office
In a Facebook post, Cittadini explained that she was resigning from her mandate, not her commitments. She said it had become impossible to reconcile her convictions with the constraints of municipal political representation under the current conditions, adding that she could not represent an electorate if she did not feel able to do so in accordance with her principles.Isolation in the council
Cittadini referenced numerous isolated votes and a progressive isolation within the municipal council. Supporters like Jacqueline Bouyac (Horizons) praised her skills and expressed regret at her departure. While Cittadini is stepping back from political life, she stated she would not abandon her key struggles, including the fight against the far right, social justice, ecology, and animal rights.Replacement and media coverage
According to Dauphiné Libéré, Cittadini has been replaced by Yvette Guiou, former first deputy mayor of outgoing mayor Serge Andrieu and formerly affiliated with the Socialist Party. Cittadini did not respond to requests for comment from BFM.
