Senator leaves regional council

The newly elected senator Thierry d'Aigremont attended his final session at the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (Paca) regional council on Friday, October 23, after being elected as a senator for Vaucluse in September. The 63-year-old member of the National Rally had to choose between his roles due to the law on non-overlapping mandates, which prevents individuals from holding multiple official positions simultaneously.

Legal constraints on mandates

D'Aigremont was required to leave his position on the regional council after his election as a senator. He explained his decision in a statement on his Facebook account, expressing emotional farewell to his role in the regional council. The law on non-overlapping mandates applies to positions at the national and regional levels but not to local municipal roles.

Municipal council roles remain

Outside the scope of the non-overlapping mandates law, d'Aigremont can retain his position on the Carpentras municipal council, the sub-prefecture of Vaucluse. However, he must step down from his role as deputy mayor, a position he held since the municipal elections in March 2026.

Future of deputy mayor role

D'Aigremont now holds the mandates of senator and municipal council member, stating he will continue to represent the people of Carpentras. The question of who will replace him as deputy mayor remains open. Reports from the newspaper Dauphiné Libéré suggest that the next Carpentras municipal council, scheduled for November 19, will elect a new deputy mayor.
