Every year, the release of EA SPORTS FC, the popular football (soccer) video game, brings both anticipation and skepticism. With the latest edition, FC 27, set to launch on September 25, 2026, for multiple platforms including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, the game promises a new focus: giving players more control over the gameplay. This comes after years of criticism that the game’s mechanics felt too automated, with actions sometimes appearing to be dictated by the game rather than the player’s input. EA has made this shift in control the centerpiece of its marketing, and after testing the game, it appears they’ve made real progress. One of the most noticeable changes is how the ball behaves. In previous versions, passes and shots sometimes felt unrealistic, with the ball moving in ways that seemed more like the game’s design than the player’s actions. In FC 27, the ball now reacts more naturally to what the player does. A poorly timed cross no longer magically reaches the intended player, and a misplaced rebound is less likely to result in a goal. This makes the game feel more authentic and gives players a clearer sense of cause and effect in every action. Another improvement is the balance between attack and defense. Earlier versions of the game often favored one side over the other, making either attacking or defending feel less engaging. In FC 27, both aspects are more evenly matched. Defending is no longer a frustrating task, and attacking is no longer a routine exercise. While some adjustments are expected in future updates, the foundation of the game feels more balanced and fair. The biggest change, however, is the emphasis on skill and strategy. To score or defend effectively, players must now focus on building plays—positioning, ball circulation, and patience. Automation is no longer the key to success. This shift makes the game more rewarding, as players feel their progress and improvement over time. While FC 27 may not be a complete revolution for the series, it does give players a greater sense of control and realism. If future updates continue to refine the balance, this could be one of the best entries in the franchise in years.
