The Pixel 9, a smartphone from Google, has recently gained a new feature that allows it to show more than just a clock when placed on its charger. On Wednesday, October 7, Android Authority shared a report from a Telegram user named Sameerasw, who received new lock screen wallpapers intended for the Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 on their Pixel 9 Pro. This lock screen display, which appears when the phone is charging, is similar to the StandBy mode on Apple's iPhone. Until recently, the Pixel 9 and earlier models only offered three options: a clock, colors, and photos. In August 2025, Google introduced a major update to this feature with the release of the Pixel 10. This update added weather information, commands for smart home devices, and various clock styles—marking the first significant change to the lock screen in over a decade. The following year, in August 2026, the Pixel 11 took things even further. Users can now choose from multiple lock screen options and switch between them with a simple swipe of the finger. Additionally, Google introduced a new design called Charge, which displays the battery percentage in large text, a bar along the screen’s edge, and markers at 80 and 100 percent. The rollout of these new features seems to be happening gradually. Google has the ability to activate the feature remotely, without requiring users to download an update. It's also possible that this is a test being run on a limited number of devices. If you want to check if your Pixel phone has this feature, you can go to the Settings app, select the Display section, and then navigate to the Lock Screen menu. This evolution of the lock screen reflects a broader trend in smartphone design, where even the simplest features are being enhanced to provide more utility and personalization. As Google continues to refine these features, users may see more options and greater customization in the future.
