Ouicem Kattoursi, one of the largest French drug traffickers, is set to be extradited to France soon. According to a source close to the case reported by franceinfo on September 30, this follows confirmation from Le Parisien of earlier reports. Kattoursi, a Franco-Tunisian national, was arrested in Dubai last June and is now expected to face legal action in France. He is described as a man who "leads by word," similar to traditional mafia bosses, and is believed to have played a significant role in France's cocaine importation networks. Born in Sevran, a town in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, Kattoursi, now 44, is considered one of the country's top drug traffickers. He was previously targeted by an arrest warrant in a dispute case from January 2017 in La Courneuve, also in Seine-Saint-Denis. Authorities suspect him of being the instigator in that case. Known for his caution, Kattoursi was arrested for the first time in Dubai in 2023 but was eventually released by local authorities. Kattoursi is believed to have frequently traveled between the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia before his arrest in Dubai. Since then, judicial cooperation between France and the UAE has increased, aiding the ongoing investigation. While the dispute case is being pursued, investigators are also focusing on determining Kattoursi's exact role in the cocaine importation circuits in France. A police officer noted in June that Kattoursi had climbed so high in the criminal hierarchy that he no longer participates in the more dangerous aspects of the trade. Investigators are also looking into potential money laundering operations that may have been established in the UAE. Kattoursi is described as a man who relies on "trusted lieutenants" to carry out his orders, maintaining a low profile while exerting influence over criminal networks. As the extradition process moves forward, authorities hope to uncover more details about his operations and the broader drug trafficking networks he may have been involved with.
