Film not based on game's main character

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 film will not follow the narrative of the game's protagonist, V/20. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated that the studio does not plan to create a direct adaptation of the game for the cinema. Instead, the film will tell an original story set within the Cyberpunk universe.

Film production details

The film is being developed in partnership with Paramount, which has since been integrated into Skydance following a recent merger. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for his work on the Transformers cinematic adaptation, will produce the film.

Cyberpunk universe's potential

The Cyberpunk universe, created by tabletop role-playing game designer Mike Pondsmith, offers a vast setting for original stories. The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners animated series, produced by Studio Trigger, will return on Netflix with the release of its second season on October 20.

New original game in development

CD Projekt Red has also announced the official launch of Project Hadar, its first game set in an original universe. Previously, the studio had focused on universes from other sources, such as The Witcher, based on novels, and Cyberpunk, based on a tabletop role-playing game.

Remaster and future projects

The Witcher 3 has received a remaster for consoles and PC, though some visual issues, including a pronounced bloom effect, have been reported. CD Projekt Red has responded to these issues promptly. The Cyberpunk 2 game is also in development, although its release date remains uncertain.
