Paramount Pictures is currently working on a live-action movie version of Cyberpunk 2077, a popular 2020 video game known for its dystopian setting and complex storytelling. The film is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who has previously worked on big-budget projects like Transformers and G.I. Joe. CD Projekt Red, the Polish game studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, is also involved in the project. However, no specific details have been shared about the actors, writers, or directors who will be part of the film. It is still unclear whether the movie will follow the game's storyline closely or tell a new story set in the same universe, similar to the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which was produced by Netflix. Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, shared his excitement about the film project on X, a social media platform. He said, "We are delighted to count Paramount among our future partners, as this company shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details in due time." If the film is based directly on the game, Paramount could benefit from the game's existing cast of actors. In Cyberpunk 2077, Keanu Reeves played Johnny Silverhand, a fictional character with a rebellious personality, much like the character Tyler Durden from the movie Fight Club. Idris Elba also appeared in an expansion called "Phantom Liberty," which has a compelling storyline but may be more complex for newcomers to the Cyberpunk universe. CD Projekt Red is also working on a new Cyberpunk video game, which is expected to release after The Witcher 4. This means the new game may not be available before 2029 or 2030. This timing could be ideal, as a Cyberpunk film is also expected to be released around the same time. Reeves has already shown interest in appearing in the next Cyberpunk game, which could mean he might also appear in the movie as Johnny Silverhand. Paramount is making a significant investment in adapting popular video games into films. This includes the upcoming Street Fighter movie, which is set to release this weekend. In 2028, the studio will also release a Call of Duty film written by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Peter Berg. With its recent merger with Warner Brothers, Paramount now has access to a wide range of intellectual properties, allowing it to expand its film and television offerings significantly.
