The European Authors' Day will take place from November 11 to December 12, 2026, with the theme "Embrace togetherness," emphasizing the value of friendship and community. The event aims to connect readers with European literature and its creators, promoting a deeper appreciation of books and storytelling across the continent. This initiative was launched in 2023 by the European Commission to celebrate and support the literary culture of Europe. In France, the organization Ciclic plays a key role in coordinating the participation of groups that want to host events related to books and reading. These events can include meetings with authors, readings, workshops, and discussions. Ciclic has been instrumental in supporting local organizations, having helped 47 groups in 2025 to organize 157 activities that reached over 5,300 people. Since 2025, the European Authors' Day has been managed by a consortium of seven partners from five European countries. This collaboration ensures a wide range of activities and participation across the continent. The 2025 edition saw over 300,000 people take part in more than 6,573 events across 34 countries, highlighting the event's growing popularity and impact. The European Authors' Day is not limited to a single day but spans several weeks, allowing for a variety of events and activities. This extended timeframe provides opportunities for people to engage with literature and authors in different ways, whether through local book clubs, school programs, or public readings. The theme for 2026 encourages a sense of unity and shared experience, reinforcing the idea that reading and storytelling are collective endeavors that bring people together.
