Amazon unveiled six new e-readers on October 1, 2026, the day after introducing a new Amazon Fire TV Stick. The new Kindle devices come with a redesigned "reverse stack" screen, where the borders are now aligned with the screen edges. Amazon has introduced new color options, including Ube (a violet shade), Alpine Sky (a blue), Seaglass Green (a green), Graphite (a dark gray), and Fig (a burgundy). Across all models, the power button has been moved to the upper right side. The basic Kindle model has undergone a significant redesign, with its 6-inch screen now flush with the casing instead of recessed. It is now lighter, weighing 140 grams compared to 158 grams previously, and thinner at 6.8 mm. Amazon claims the device can last up to six weeks on a single charge, has 16 GB of storage, and opens books 30 percent faster. A new aluminum version of the Kindle with double the storage at 32 GB is also available but is 20 grams heavier. However, it still lacks warm lighting and water resistance. The plastic Kindle is priced at 154.99 euros in France (174.99 euros without ads), while the aluminum version costs 194.99 euros (without ads). The Kindle Paperwhite retains its 7-inch screen, adjustable warm lighting, and water resistance. It has become slightly thinner by 1 mm and now weighs 204 grams instead of 211 grams. Amazon claims the device now offers the best contrast in the product line's history, achieved through an oxide transistor layer. It is available from 209.99 euros in France (229.99 euros without ads). Like the basic Kindle, the Paperwhite also has an aluminum edition with 32 GB of storage, automatic lighting, charging via a dock, and a double tap on the back to turn pages. This version costs 259.99 euros. Amazon is also updating its Kindle Colorsoft, which features a color screen. The company claims it has completely redesigned the screen of the e-reader, with color now displaying up to the edges and a system to reduce ambient light. An ultra-thin optical coating is supposed to improve clarity, though the difference may not be immediately noticeable. The Colorsoft is priced at 299.99 euros with 16 GB of storage and comes in Graphite. The Colorsoft Signature Edition includes the same features as the Paperwhite (aluminum, 32 GB, automatic lighting, dock, double tap) and costs 329.99 euros. Accessories include a remote control and a page-turning case. In terms of accessories, Amazon is launching the Kindle Click (34.99 euros), a small Bluetooth remote control with two large buttons to navigate forward or backward, and two side buttons to adjust brightness. It works with the new e-readers and all Kindles released since 2024. Another accessory, the Page Turner Case (79.99 euros), adds real physical buttons, which have been absent from Kindles for several generations. It connects via contact pins and is available only for the aluminum Signature Edition versions of the Paperwhite and Colorsoft. The basic Kindle model's price in France has increased from 109.99 euros at its 2024 launch to 154.99 euros. The Kindle Paperwhite has gone up from 169.99 euros to 209.99 euros. The Colorsoft 16 GB model's price has risen from 269.99 euros to 299.99 euros. The Colorsoft was released in July 2025 alongside its launch in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The Kindle and its aluminum version are available starting October 1 in 19 countries, including France, Belgium, and Canada. The Paperwhite and Colorsoft are opening pre-orders gradually in the same countries.
