Blizzard Entertainment, a leading video game developer, has unveiled a new version of its iconic game World of Warcraft during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 on September 13. The event, which took place over two days, included not only gaming announcements but also panels and playable demos for attendees. This latest version, called World of Warcraft: Forever, builds upon World of Warcraft Classic, a version of the original 2004 game that strips away all updates and expansions, returning players to the game’s original state. World of Warcraft: Forever introduces several new features and content to the original Azeroth world. Players can expect enhanced visuals, three new zones, over 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, two new raids, and a new playable race known as the Skyborne Elves. These additions aim to expand on the original game’s foundation while offering fresh experiences for both returning players and newcomers. The beta testing phase for World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 17, and will run until October 21, 2026. While Blizzard has not yet specified a start time for the beta, players can gain access by pre-ordering one of three available packages through the Blizzard store. The most expensive option, the Collector's Edition, includes physical items like a journal book, a mousepad, and a statue of a Dwarven Hunter and his bear companion. The beta is also open to active World of Warcraft subscribers, though access is not guaranteed. Subscribers who participate in the beta will be able to play up to level 30, while the final game will allow players to reach level 60. Blizzard has confirmed that character creation and name reservations for the final game will open on October 27, 2026, and any progress made during the beta will not carry over. The full release of World of Warcraft: Forever is set for November 4, 2026. Beyond the launch, Blizzard has outlined plans for 2027, including new raids, a hardcore difficulty mode, and additional content to keep the game evolving for its player base.
