Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a well-known British explorer, is currently missing, and his stepson, Alexander Millington-Cotes, has expressed concerns about the care he is receiving. Millington-Cotes claims that police have not provided the assistance he requested in locating Fiennes, who is 82 years old. He has contacted multiple police forces, including Cheshire Constabulary and West Mercia Police, seeking help to find his stepfather. Despite his efforts, he has not seen Fiennes in over a year and has not received a response from the police. Millington-Cotes recently visited a care home in Cheshire where Fiennes had been placed for seven weeks earlier this year. The staff told him that Fiennes was no longer at the facility. He has also reached out to the police in Shropshire, where the family home is located, but has not received a response. To help with the search, Millington-Cotes has created a GoFundMe page to raise money. He has stated that he wants to ensure Fiennes has the ability to make decisions about his care and where he wants to live. The Care Inspectorate of Wales (CIW) informed a care home owner in Wales that Fiennes was being "unlawfully deprived of his liberty." The CIW is responsible for monitoring Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), which are legal measures designed to protect individuals in care homes. These safeguards ensure that any restrictions on a person's freedom are lawful, necessary, and in their best interests. However, the organization has declined to comment on specific cases or care arrangements. West Mercia and Cheshire police forces have not responded to requests for comment on the situation.
