French cyclist suspended over doping test

French para-cyclist Thomas Peyroton-Dartet has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance following a sample collected at the Road Para-Cycling World Championships in 2026.

Doping test reveals presence of EPO

The sample analyzed showed the presence of erythropoietin (EPO), a synthetic hormone that increases red blood cell production, improving endurance and recovery. EPO is classified as a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is banned both during and outside of competition.

Athlete’s recent success and achievements

Peyroton-Dartet, 41, was in the prime of his career when the positive test was announced. He had recently won gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and secured a silver medal in the road race. He also held European and world titles in his category.

Athlete has options to challenge the suspension

Under current regulations, Peyroton-Dartet can request the analysis of a second sample, known as the B sample, to challenge the provisional suspension. If the B sample confirms the presence of EPO or if he does not request the analysis, the case will be classified as a confirmed violation and handled by the International Testing Agency (ITA).
