SFR, a major French telecommunications company, has launched a new fiber internet plan called Fibre Starter. This service offers high-speed internet with download and upload speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gb/s) for 27.99 euros per month, provided the customer agrees to a 12-month contract. The plan includes the rental of the SFR Box 7, a device that connects to the fiber network and allows for both fast downloads and uploads. The Wi-Fi 5 standard used by the service ensures reliable wireless connectivity, and the symmetric speeds—equal upload and download speeds—are ideal for everyday tasks like streaming, online gaming, video conferencing, and working remotely. The high upload speed is especially useful for backing up files to the cloud or sending large files. The Fibre Starter package also includes fixed-line telephone service, offering unlimited calls to landlines within France, including its overseas departments, and over 100 international destinations. Additionally, the service features Protected Navigation, a security tool that blocks access to websites known for malicious activity. The plan provides access to television through the SFR Box 7 TV decoder, which is compatible with 4K resolution and includes a selection of 160 TV channels and services. Users can watch live TV, access replays, and enjoy on-demand content through the decoder, which also includes a TV guide and the ability to control live content. The decoder also allows users to record up to eight hours of programming and access major streaming platforms through its interface, though subscriptions to these platforms are not included in the offer. One of the benefits of the Fibre Starter plan is that it allows users to keep their existing fixed phone number when switching providers, thanks to the portability of fixed numbers in France. To do this, customers must obtain their RIO (Référentiel d'Identification des Objets), a 12-character code that identifies their phone line. This code is retrieved by calling a specific number from the existing fixed line and is then provided to the new operator when signing up for the service. Customers are advised not to cancel their previous internet plan themselves, as the new provider is responsible for transferring the number and ending the old contract. SFR also offers to reimburse up to 100 euros of any fees charged by the previous provider for canceling or terminating the contract. The final steps of switching to Fibre Starter involve returning the old equipment and installing the new SFR Box 7. SFR charges a one-time service opening fee of 49 euros, which includes sending a technician to connect the home to the fiber network. This fee covers the setup and installation, ensuring that customers can start using their new high-speed internet, television, and phone services as soon as possible. The Fibre Starter package aims to simplify the process of switching providers while offering a comprehensive bundle of services tailored for modern household needs.
