SFR introduced a new fiber optic internet service called "SFR Fibre Sobriété" on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. This offer is designed for new customers and includes a refurbished internet box, access to 160 TV channels via an app, unlimited calls to French landlines, and high-speed internet of up to 1 Gb/s. The service costs 27.99 euros per month for a 12-month commitment. Unlike other similar offers, it does not include a traditional physical decoder, which is a device that receives and decodes TV signals. The internet box used in this offer is a refurbished version of the SFR Box 7, first introduced in 2013. It features Wi-Fi 5 technology, which is slightly older than the latest Wi-Fi 7 models. According to a study by SFR and certified by the LCIE Bureau Veritas, using refurbished devices is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of the equipment by about half over seven years, though this can vary based on the device and how it's used. In addition to its environmental focus, SFR contributes one euro per month per subscription to the A Tree for You association. This fund helps local farmers in Normandy replant hedges, aiming to plant around 17,000 trees over time. Part of the subscription also supports SFR’s climate initiative, "Le Cap," which aims to reduce residual emissions through specific projects. Compared to similar offers from competitors, SFR Fibre Sobriété is more expensive than options like RED Box (starting at 22.99 euros) or La Boîte Sosh (starting at 24.99 euros). Technologically, it is less advanced than B&YOU Pure Fibre, which offers internet speeds of up to 8 Gb/s using a Wi-Fi 7 router, and Free, which provides up to 5 Gb/s with the Freebox Pop. However, SFR leads in the number of TV channels available through its app—160 channels—which is more than RED (35) and Sosh (70), though less than Free TV’s 300 channels, which costs 29.99 euros per month for a year. While other providers offer different variations of the "no decoder" model—such as B&YOU, which provides no TV at all, or RED and Sosh, which still charge extra for a physical box—SFR's unique combination of certified refurbished equipment and direct environmental sponsorship sets it apart. This approach aligns with growing consumer interest in sustainability and environmentally responsible business practices.
