The Asus Chromebook CM1406 is a lightweight and affordable laptop designed for users who need a simple, efficient device for everyday tasks. It has been introduced to high school students in Île-de-France as part of their first-year equipment, but it is also a popular option for university students and professionals who mainly use computers for basic tasks like web browsing, document editing, and email. The laptop is currently available at Boulanger for 449.99 euros, a discount from its original price of 499.99 euros. Its slim design—only 1.99 cm thick and weighing 1.32 kg—makes it easy to carry around, ideal for students and workers who move between classes or offices. The Chromebook features a minimalist aluminum body in a Blue Aura color, a 14-inch touchscreen with a high-resolution WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels) display, and a hinge that allows the screen to open fully to 180 degrees. The screen includes an anti-reflective coating, which helps reduce glare and makes it easier to read in bright environments like classrooms or outdoor settings. These features make it a practical choice for students who need to take notes or watch educational content on the go. In terms of connectivity, the CM1406 offers a variety of ports, including two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, two USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, one HDMI 1.4 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. These ports allow users to connect external devices like monitors, printers, or headphones. It also supports Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6E, providing fast and reliable wireless connections. The Chrome OS, which powers the device, is known for its simplicity and speed, with the Chrome browser serving as the main tool for most tasks. It integrates seamlessly with Google’s suite of applications and cloud storage, reducing the need for high-performance hardware. The CM1406 is powered by a MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, 8 GB of LPDDR5X memory, and 128 GB of eMMC storage. All these components are soldered directly onto the motherboard, meaning users cannot upgrade them later. However, the device includes a 12-month subscription to Google AI Pro, offering 5 TB of online storage. Asus claims the battery can last up to 23 hours on a single charge, depending on usage, which is ideal for students and professionals who need long-lasting power without frequent recharging.
