Pirelli, the Italian tire manufacturer, has announced the specific tire compounds that will be used during the upcoming American leg of the Formula 1 season. This leg includes three consecutive Grand Prix races in the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. For the United States Grand Prix, which will take place in Austin from October 23 to 25, Pirelli has selected the C2 (hard), C3 (medium), and C4 (soft) compounds. A week later, from October 30 to November 1, the Mexican Grand Prix will use the C3, C4, and C5 compounds. The same selection will be used for the São Paulo Grand Prix, which is scheduled from November 6 to 8 on the Interlagos circuit. Pirelli has decided to use softer tires in São Paulo, hoping to increase the strategic options available to teams. In 2025, the company tried to create a greater difference between the available tire compounds in Austin and Mexico, aiming to encourage teams to consider different race strategies. In Texas, the C1 was used as the hard tire, while the C2 took on that role in Mexico. The medium and soft compounds remained the same as those used this year. The goal was to make single-stop strategies more appealing by using the most durable compound. However, this approach did not achieve the desired effect. Teams largely favored the two softest tires and did not opt for a single-stop strategy using hard tires. For 2026, Pirelli has therefore returned to a more conventional selection in Austin and is using the three softest compounds in Mexico. The most significant change, however, is in the São Paulo Grand Prix. At Interlagos, the tire selection will be softer than in 2025. In the previous edition, teams had already used the hard tire very little, generally preferring two-stop strategies based on medium and soft tires. By offering the C3, C4, and C5 compounds this year, Pirelli hopes to give teams more flexibility. This selection could especially encourage strategies that use all three types of tires during the race, rather than focusing on only the two most performing compounds. The differences in tire degradation and performance could play an important role in the decisions made during the Grand Prix, especially if track conditions change during the weekend. With three circuits that have very different characteristics, the American leg of the season will be a new test for tire management and team strategies. The São Paulo Grand Prix, in particular, could offer a greater variety of strategies due to a more aggressive tire selection compared to last year.
