Tire burst demonstration at high speed

BYD demonstrated the stability of its second-generation Seagull electric car during a tire explosion at 140 km/h. The vehicle continued in a straight line without swerving until it came to a complete stop, showcasing its advanced stabilization system.

Seagull’s stabilization system is standard

The vehicle’s stabilization system, which allows it to maintain its trajectory after a tire burst, is standard on all versions of the Seagull. This system is now available on lower price ranges, expanding its accessibility.

Second-generation Seagull launched in China

The second-generation Seagull has been available in China since October 20, 2026, with prices starting at 65,900 yuan, approximately 8,000 euros. The demonstration was conducted by the manufacturer on a controlled track and does not replace independent testing.

Staged demonstrations common in China

In China, staged demonstrations have become a common part of vehicle launches. As early as January 2023, the Yangwang U8, a luxury SUV from the group, maintained its line after a sudden deflation at 120 km/h, highlighting the growing trend of showcasing safety features.

Seagull’s improved specifications

The second-generation Seagull is larger, with a length of 4.20 meters, 42.5 centimeters longer than the previous model. It now accommodates five passengers instead of four, and the engine has moved to the rear, making it a rear-wheel drive vehicle with a front trunk of 94 liters.

Enhanced performance and battery technology

The power has increased from 55 to 95 kW (129 hp), with a top speed of 150 km/h. A multi-arm rear suspension replaces the torsion beam axle, and the second-generation Blade battery promises 320 or 420 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is more optimistic than the WLTP.

Advanced features and charging options

Higher versions of the Seagull feature Flash charging, allowing the battery to go from 10 to 70% in five minutes, provided that dedicated BYD charging stations are used. A LiDAR is even offered as an option with the DiPilot 300 driving assistance.

New features for customers

Starting today, each purchase entitles the customer to twelve months of free Flash charging, without energy limits. In France, the current Dolphin Surf starts at 19,990 euros. BYD has not announced any European schedule for this new generation.
