Former center Joffrey Lauvergne is seeking unpaid wages from his former club ASVEL, according to Eurohoops. The French team has been banned from signing new players in the Euroleague because it owes Lauvergne 300,000 euros. Lauvergne, who is 35 years old and 2.11 meters tall, played for ASVEL from 2022 to 2025 but suffered a torn cruciate ligament in October 2022, which limited his playing time. After his injury, he joined teams in Kuwait and, this season, Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. Lauvergne has taken legal action by filing a case with the Basketball Arbitration Tribunal. This move has prevented ASVEL from adding new players to its roster, which has affected the team’s ability to strengthen its lineup. The club, which is coached by former NBA player Tony Parker, is currently struggling with financial challenges that have significantly impacted its operations. ASVEL had once aimed high, presenting a budget of between 50 and 60 million euros, with a salary cap six times higher than usual. However, these ambitious plans were scaled back due to a lack of financial support from an investor. The team's budget has since dropped to 24 million euros, leading to the departure of several players, including point guard Sylvain Francisco, who signed with the Greek team Panathinaikos. Despite these difficulties, ASVEL currently holds a 1-1 record in the Euroleague, matching seven other teams at seventh place in the standings. The team is set to face Valencia at the LDLC Arena on Friday, where it will look to improve its performance and address its ongoing financial and roster challenges.
