New cast joins Il Barbiere di Siviglia

The production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Opéra Bastille, which began on September 12, continues from October 24 with a new cast for three of the four main characters.

Andrzej Filończyk as Figaro*

Andrzej Filończyk takes over from Huw Montague Rendall as Figaro, portraying an extroverted character with a clear and well-projected voice. His "Largo al factotum," sung with force, is highly effective, as is the duet "All’idea di quel metallo," which is spirited.

Levy Sekgapane as the Count*

Levy Sekgapane takes over the role of the Count, a role he had previously performed. In "Ecco ridente in cielo," his voice initially lacks confidence, possibly due to stage fright, but he regains control with "Se il mio nome saper voi bramate," offering delicacy with impeccable legato.

Marina Viotti as Rosine*

Marina Viotti is noted as a Rosine close to the ideal, with a rich harmonic timbre and mastery of bel canto. Her "Una voce poco fa" is described as a brilliant interpretation, ornamented with taste.

Other cast members and changes*

Nicola Alaimo remains as Bartolo, demonstrating extreme speed in his syllabic singing and an irresistible comic presence. Amin Ahangaran is Fiorello with a sonorous timbre, and Adolfo Corrado's "La calunnia" retains its impact. The production continues to generate enthusiasm, with some changes made to the staging, new gags added, and the final scene modified.

Final scene and reception*

In the final scene, Rosine now drives the motorcycle with the Count in the back, a change described as a sign of the times. Alessandro Di Stefano and Jader Bignamini received a warm reception at the final bow.
