Sony has announced discounts on its PlayStation Plus subscription tiers, which will be available from May 2026 until September 30, 2026. PlayStation Plus is the service required to play online with other players on most games, and it offers three subscription levels: Essential, Extra, and Premium. The Essential tier is now priced at 61.19 euros annually, down from its usual 71.99 euros. The Extra tier has been reduced from 125.99 euros to 100.79 euros annually, and the Premium tier is now 113.99 euros annually, down from 151.99 euros. The Essential subscription allows users to play online with others, adds a selection of free games to their library each month, and grants discounts on the PlayStation Store. These free games remain accessible as long as the subscription is active. For players who mainly want to play online with friends, the Essential tier provides all the necessary features. The Extra tier includes everything from the Essential tier, plus access to a large catalog of games, ranging from major releases to independent titles. However, Sony has mentioned that since January 2026, new PS4 games are added to the catalog only occasionally, with the focus now shifting to PS5 titles. The Premium tier includes all the benefits of the Extra tier, along with a collection of classic games from earlier PlayStation generations, trial versions of games, and the ability to stream PS5 games in the cloud. Cloud streaming requires a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbit/s, with 15 Mbit/s recommended for a smooth 1080p experience. Whether a user finds the Premium tier valuable depends on their internet speed and interest in retro gaming.
