Tahiti, October 4, 2026 - The Kona Tri Tahiti club organized a duathlon at the Vairai Park in Punaauia on Sunday. Nearly a hundred athletes, mostly young enthusiasts, participated in one of the five events on the program, including a new hybrid event inspired by the Hyrox. The Vairai Park venue hosted the second edition of the Punaauia Green Duathlon, organized by the Kona Tri Tahiti club under the auspices of the Tahitian Triathlon Federation. The competition brought together nearly a hundred athletes around five events. Starting at 10 o'clock, several dozen young athletes aged 6 to 11 years tested the day's course. Rémi Tournier, vice president of Kona Tri, noted the presence of a new generation that is motivated and this gives a good dynamic to the sport. After the kilometers on the bike and on foot, Marius Paillard-Brunet and Gueudin Bluette, as well as Naea Digonnet and Mohea Choune, won respectively in the 6-8 years and 9-11 years categories. Jules Hotelier regained victory in the XS and S formats. The first distance, composed of two trail sections (2.5 km and 1.25 km) separated by a 6 km mountain bike passage, saw Jules Hotelier triumph again a few months after his victory at the Haapiti triathlon. The Kona Tri runner easily won in 32'09" with more than two minutes ahead of his teammate Anatole Sery. Nuuroa Iro from Marara Tri completed the podium. Among the women, only two athletes started and it was Satine Lesy (Fei PI) who won her duel against Ohana Huber Aitamai thanks to a time of 48 minutes and 39 seconds. The main event held in the S format (3.75 km trail, 12 km mountain bike, and 2.5 km trail) crowned Teva Poulain (Marara Tri), who completed the course in just over 54 minutes. He beat Pierre Lesy (Fei Pi) and Jean-Marc Rimaud (Kona Tri). The 50-year-old from the Punaruu club, Thierry Tonnellier, finished just outside the podium. Amandine Matera (Kona Tri), already winner of the Vénus Aorai Race this year, secured a new victory by winning by a handful of seconds against Mylène Gauthey (Vahine Tri) after an hour and seven minutes of effort. Marta Slosarska (Velo Club Bora Bora) managed to secure third place. A new event was also on the duathlon program. The organizers, inspired by the growing Hyrox competitions, decided to create a hybrid race. Every 500 meters, the few competitors at the start had to perform a muscle exercise to continue the course. Push-ups, burpees, squats... "There are only bodyweight exercises and this pleases the public," said the leader who plans to repeat the experience next year. Natiméo Zijp was the strongest. The Kona Tri athlete won in 18'33". Tehoarii Tapatoa (A Rohi No Papeete) and Lukas Favrelle (Kona Tri) finished in second and third place. The two women entered fought fiercely. The athlete from Crossfit BBT, Mahana Maiarii, finally won against Eva Teriipaia (Asopa) by about ten seconds. The competitions will continue to follow one after another until the end of the month with the Varua Solo Survivor next weekend, the cross of Atimaono (Sunday, October 18) and finally the swimrun of Rangiroa (Saturday, October 31).
