American Airlines and Starlux, a Taiwanese airline, have begun accepting reservations for a new codeshare agreement, set to launch on September 30, 2026. This partnership connects four transpacific routes operated by Starlux to American Airlines' extensive North American network. The agreement allows American to apply its flight code to Starlux services linking Taipei-Taoyuan to major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Ontario in California, San Francisco, and Seattle. These flights will be available for booking through American’s website and mobile app. While Starlux already operates the Phoenix–Taipei route, it is not included in this initial codeshare and will require regulatory approval to be added. The partnership also allows Starlux to promote connections on American Airlines flights to 20 North American destinations, such as New York-JFK, Boston, Chicago-O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Miami. Starlux notes that these connections typically go through Los Angeles or Phoenix, though this does not automatically mean the Phoenix–Taipei flight will be assigned an American flight number. Both airlines emphasize the convenience of booking a single ticket for a trip involving both carriers, with the possibility of checking bags through to the final destination, provided customs procedures are met. This codeshare agreement builds on an interline agreement the two airlines established in 2025, which already enabled travelers to combine their networks. AAdvantage members, American Airlines’ loyalty program, can earn miles and Loyalty Points when booking Starlux flights that are marketed under the American code. American Airlines also highlights that these miles can be used for future travel, along with other benefits. Starlux mentions that a reciprocal loyalty program cooperation is expected in the future. For Starlux, the agreement represents an opportunity to extend its commercial reach beyond its existing American connections. For American Airlines, it allows access to more routes in Taipei and the broader Asian network without having to operate the four transpacific flights directly. Travelers booking Starlux flights through American will have the choice of business class, Premium Economy, or economy. American Airlines emphasizes the comfort features in its business class, such as sleeper seats with private doors, and the legrests available in Premium Economy.
