A French collector is preparing to auction his complete collection of 56 iPhones, ranging from the very first model released in 2007 to the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max, which came out in September 2025. The collection, which captures two decades of smartphone evolution, is expected to sell for up to 80,000 euros. The auction will close next week, with the final date set for September 12. Most of the devices are still sealed in their original packaging, making them highly valuable to collectors and tech enthusiasts. The collector, who lives in Brittany, has been gathering iPhones since he was 18 years old. He bought his first iPhone with his first paycheck in 2007, and he has never missed an Apple product launch. Over the years, he has traveled to Apple Stores around the world to acquire each new model as it was released. The only exception is the original iPhone 2G, which was opened but never activated. All other models remain in pristine, unopened condition. The auction is being handled by Toby Wickwire, an expert with 40 years of experience in the field of video games and computer-related items. The online auction, hosted on Catawiki, starts with a symbolic bid of just one euro. Experts estimate the collection could fetch between 65,000 and 80,000 euros. However, buyers should be aware of additional costs, including a 9 percent buyer protection fee, a 3 euro charge, and a 50 euro delivery fee from France. The growing interest in vintage technology has seen a dramatic rise in recent years, with demand for older devices like the iPhone increasing nearly fourfold in a single year. Sales of other 2000s-era tech items, such as iPods, cameras, and gaming consoles, have also surged by about 200 percent between January and September 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Toby Wickwire notes that the mobile phone has undergone a significant transformation in status over the past two decades, shifting from a commonly replaced gadget to a nostalgic, cherished item that people now display and preserve.
