Following Apple's September keynote, several older iPhone models still available in the market saw their official prices increase in France, an unusual trend. Typically, when a new generation of a product is launched, the older models become cheaper to encourage sales. However, this year, Apple raised the prices of several existing models, including the iPhone 17 and the iPhone Air, while the new iPhone 18 Pro starts at 1,479 € for the 256 GB version. This has created a unique situation where price differences between models are more pronounced and potentially more interesting for consumers. At Amazon, five Apple products are currently listed at significantly lower prices compared to their official retail prices. These include the iPhone Air 256 GB at 949 € instead of 1,329 €, the iPhone 17 Pro 256 GB at 1,229 € instead of 1,329 €, the iPad with an A16 chip at 460.24 € instead of 509 €, the iPhone 16 (128 GB) at 819 € instead of 1,019 €, and the iPhone 15 (128 GB) at 679 € instead of 699 €. While the price differences are significant, they do not tell the whole story. Each product has its own set of features and compromises that might influence a buyer’s decision. For instance, the iPhone Air 256 GB offers a very slim design, a 120 Hz screen, and the A19 Pro chip, but it has only one rear camera and limited battery life. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro 256 GB is highlighted for its performance, battery life, and photographic versatility, making it a strong contender even when compared to the more expensive iPhone 18 Pro. The iPad with the A16 chip is a versatile and affordable option for streaming and general use, while the iPhone 16 and 15 offer more modest discounts and slightly older features. This selection of products is unusual for 2026 because, after the September 9 keynote, Apple raised the prices of several older models instead of the usual price reductions. The iPhone Air, for example, has a 380 € difference from its current retail price, making it the most attractive option, though users should be aware of its limitations in battery and photography. The iPhone 17 Pro, while slightly cheaper than the new iPhone 18 Pro, is still a highly capable device. However, it's important to note that Amazon prices can change without notice, and the availability of these products is not guaranteed beyond September 14. Consumers should consider these factors before making a purchase.
