A cocaine dealer in Maidstone, Kent, asked drug users to steal Pokémon cards to pay off their debts, according to local police. Jack Young-Larter, 26, was arrested at his home on May 1 for supplying class A drugs. During the search, officers found two mobile phones, nearly 110g of cannabis, over 25g of cocaine, drug scales, empty deal bags, around £2,000 in cash, and a collection of rare Pokémon cards, some of which are worth hundreds or even thousands of pounds. Messages found on Young-Larter’s phone suggested he encouraged customers to steal “tins of Pokémon cards” to settle their debts. He also mentioned payments made in cash and through bank transfers. Young-Larter was caught on camera hiding drugs for customers. During a police interview, he refused to comment and simply shook his head when asked about the messages. Young-Larter was charged with being involved in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, as well as possession of criminal property, including the cash and trading cards. He pleaded guilty to all charges and appeared in Maidstone Crown Court on September 17. He was sentenced to three years and four months in prison and ordered to surrender his trading card collection. The items seized from his home, including the Pokémon cards, are now under a Deprivation Order, meaning they will not be returned to him. Detective Constable Emily Hill said Young-Larter was being punished for exploiting vulnerable people for financial gain. She noted that the judge dismissed his argument that family responsibilities should be taken into account, adding that his family is likely disappointed in him. Hill emphasized that while trading Pokémon cards can be a fun hobby, drug use destroys communities and leaves families in distress. She reiterated that police in Kent are committed to targeting drug dealers and protecting the public.
