Christmas market returns to central square

Avignon's Christmas market will return to the Place de l'Horloge, a central square in the city that also houses the town hall, after being absent for ten years. The mayor, Olivier Galzi, announced the decision in early October, setting the opening date for November 27.

Promise fulfilled after election

The market's return follows a campaign promise made by Galzi during the municipal elections in March of the previous year. The market had been moved to different locations in Avignon over the past decade, initially managed by the city before being handed over to the federation of merchants in 2019.

New location and new features

The return to the Place de l'Horloge has been welcomed by both residents and merchants. Organizers described the move as symbolic, highlighting that the mayor kept his election promise. The market will feature an improved setup, including chalets under a light ceiling and more than double the number of exhibitors compared to the previous location.

New exhibitors and event dates

New exhibitors such as a glassblower, a jewelry creator, and the santonnier Campana will participate. Campana will maintain his stand in the Church of the Célestins. The market will run until January 2, 2027, with an inauguration ceremony planned for November 28 at 6 p.m.
